The credibility of the HoF will finally have some meaning when Rush is finally put into it. _________________

I love how that, despite being the least rock of the bunch, N.W.A. has more rock attitude and is, in spirit, more rock than almost all of those nominees. _________________

Wow, about time Deep Purple and Rush got nominated. I hate Heart, so I really can't say that it's nice they got nominated.
So, apparently Public Enemy are now a rock band? _________________

Finally Rush has a chance to be in the hall of shame!
I just don't get how N.W.A. or Public Enemy can be described as "Rock" though...just doesn't make sense to me. Hip-hop with rock elements =/= rock. _________________

I couldn't agree anymore with this. The sheer talent and success of Rush should have gotten them in by now. Almost like how the 500 club in baseball works. But the Hall of Fame is just a big popularity contest, and it's a tragedy that they have been left out of it for so long.
I believe this is where you can vote:

Again, they're rock in spirit, much more so than Donna Summer or Kraftwerk. _________________

Ah yes, Randy Newman. Everyone remembers all of his classic rock 'n' roll hits like...
Anyway, echoing the sentiment of happiness that Rush, Deep Purple, and Heart are finally in. They still have a long way to go (see this or this, for example), but it's definitely a start. _________________

They're not in yet, only nominated.
Rush finally getting nominated is interesting, as it's kind of a win for overwhelming public sentiment against the biases of the people who run the thing. I'm not as surprised now as I was a couple years ago when Genesis got the nod. Until then it seemed like no prog rock might ever make it.
I think Rush's case is helped by the fact they are still making new albums and are still a powerful live act (both in terms of quality and draw), whereas many of their contemporaries have long since faded away. _________________

I care about the Rock and Roll HoF about as much as I care about the Grammys, which is to say: not in the fucking slightest. _________________

I strongly dislike the fact that there are always rap artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There are so many more amazing rock bands out there that should replace those rap artists. |

What exactly makes music "rock and roll" or not is really the heart of the debate here. The RARHOF is a commercial endeavor at heart though; they have a big concert and get people to watch it, and charge tourists to look at their Hard Rock Cafe-esque collection. They tend to put commercially successful bands in, but also certain critically well-received bands (read: whoever's dicks Rolling Stone has sucked over the past 40 years). Music is music; separately, business is business. _________________

Very well said. As such, the fact that Rush hasn't been inducted until now really isn't that big of a deal. Sure Rush is missing the "recognition" they deserve from Rolling Stone, but who values their opinion anymore? _________________

I will not be satisfied until Def Leppard gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. |
