Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that we have an "Official Thread" for just about everything?
At the rate they are appearing, pretty soon no one will have their own topics.
Personally, I think things like beating TTFAF and Jordan are things worth of their own topics.
After all, It is nice to have a few compliments to your good work, and frankly, no one does that in official threads.
So, is anyone else in agreement when I say we should have a lot less official threads? _________________

110,000 users x 1 thread for each song x 2 songs = 220,000 threads.
As compared to:
110,000 users x 1 post in one thread = 1 thread.
A lot less clutter while still achieving the same principle. So, I don't agree with you. Organization is a good thing. Just like pie. _________________

I don't mind it, it makes it so there's not tons of different topics on the same subject _________________

I have noticed, though, that there are several "Official" threads created by non-official people. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing necessarily, but it does take away meaning from the word "Official".
To the OP: You aren't alone in your sentiment, by a long shot. Nick's right, though; the acheivement thread would be insanely cluttered if everyone made their own topic. Try to think of it as contributing to a community acheivement, if it makes you feel better. You're part of the elite group that can post "We beat TFAF on expert!"
Nick is also right about pie.
Interestingly enough, 110,000 users x 1 post = 1 thread that's 7,334 pages long. _________________

As someone who has made 2 official threads, here is my two cents:
1. They stop clutter (imagine an official Raining Blood thread, which if you go through pages 1-10 of TSG , such topics consist of 15% of all topics.
2. If you make a thread which you are unqualified to make, you will have people flame your thread, and someone else will make a better one.

I like pie too. But, in the case of a set of online message boards, Organization is probably a better, if slightly less tasty, way of doing things. Yeah, there may be a lot of "Official" threads, and they may have a crap-ton of posts in them, but I'd rather have to scroll through a crap-ton of posts than a crap-ton of threads. But that's just me. _________________

At the same time, who is going to read through one thread that has 110,000 posts in it? _________________

I think I'm going to make "The Offical 'Alakaiser bans everyone who makes pointless posts'" thread.
EDIT: And so my post isn't pointless...
RE: Jordan threads. We had so many of those goddamn threads that ***** was literally FULL of nothing but those threads. We don't like to marginalize those accomplishments that people are happy about, but it comes to a time when everyone is posting the same -exact- thing, to put it all in one thread, rather than clutter up an entire forum.
EDIT 2: Unlocked since I'm in a good mood. _________________

Eh, both ways have there advantages. I think the official threads thing is a good idea. Much less clutter. _________________

The Official "How To" threads are great for all the questions of how to beat a song(like Jordan). If you make an accomplishment thread of your own, just find it when you have another accomplishment. Don't clutter the *****. There was no way anyone was stopping me when I finally passed Jordan. As far as the official threads for the accomplishments, I agree with the OP completely that no one congratulates anybody on their accomplishment. _________________

I disagree with multiple accomplishment threads for beating the same song that everyone is trying to beat, and I'm not perfect I have made some in the past. But usually when someone makes a thread title "I Beat Jordan/TTFAF/etc." Most of the time people are just posting in that thread not to congratulate them, but more to up their post count. I have seen people in the accomplishment forum post the same thing in multiple threads usually one word answers saying "congrats". This is why an Official Thread for common accomplishments is better because there will be less clutter and people can still express their joy without having to make a new topic that everyone will post useless answers that just give them +1 on their post count and don't even make a good post. This is just my thought on this. I am no way against expressing your joy/happiness for beating an accomplishment and that is why one thread for common accomplishments is better than multiple threads with the same topic and same useless posts of 10 or more people congratulating them. |

Ok, so I understand some official threads. And know that they do help lower clutter.
But go through Techs, and you'll see 5 or 6 "Official" Or "Unofficial" TTFAF threads.
At least put some control on it.
Everyone is making official threads now.
Maybe make it so there is one official thread per issue, and have a mod create it instead of someone who joined 3 hours ago and has 5 posts. _________________

I just think it's annoying when everyone who writes "learn to tap teh intro and save star powerss" and then names their thread "The Official Through The Fire And Flames Guide" has it official.
If something is official, that means a mod has made it so/stickied it. I think that the only official threads are the stickied ones. If it's not stickied, then it isn't useful enough to be stickied, then it isn't worthy of being official.
Official threads like the Jordan one, that are regulated and stickied, those are useful. _________________

Official Threads are good, but I think only fficial people should make them. It sort of defeats the official part when random people make official threads _________________
