The DJ Hero Info Thread

Release Date: October 27, 2009
Confirmed Songs/Artists: SEE BELOW IN THIS POST

I'm trying to put all info on DJ Hero in this thread, so if you have anything to add, please let me know. Check below all the updates to see all the actual information like song list, gameplay, videos, etc. Try to read this entire post before adding something, but i'm not gonna be super pissed off or anything if you post something that's already here.

10/6: Finally a full list of mixes, replacing my list of individual tracks for which I was too lazy to organize it into mixes. See below for the entire list of 93 mixes with over 100 songs!

9/28 Update:
Lots of new songs!

9/12 Update: Daft Punk will be contributing a number of exclusive mixes to DJ Hero!
http://www.destructoid.com/daft-punk-contribute-exclusive-mixes-to-dj-hero-148273.phtml

• Daft Punk “Around the World” vs. Young MC “Bust A Move”
• Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. NASA “Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”
• Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”
• Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)”
• Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Queen “We Will Rock You”
• Daft Punk “Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions “Jack Of Spades”
• Daft Punk “Technologic” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”
• Daft Punk “Television Rules The Nation” vs. No Doubt “Hella Good”

8/21 Update: I just added two new songs, so I'm leaving the 8/20 ones marked as new. And I'm just gonna quote toymachine's entire post in case you want to see the video/article:

toymachine wrote:
Quote:
“We take two records that you're really familiar with - a good example would be Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby and MC Hammer's You Can't Touch This, and we squeeze both of those tracks together to make a new mix and that's what you play along to,” McSherry said in a phone interview.

OH SNAP!

8/20 update:
some new songs (by the way i'm just listing all the tracks individually until the full list of mixes comes out, then I'll just copy and paste that )

8/18 Update: Achievement/trophy list revealed: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/dj-hero/achievements/

8/17 Update: New hands-on article here: http://gamescom.gamespot.com/story/6215405/dj-hero-first-hands-on?tag=topslot;title;1 also confirms a couple new tracks (you can see these below)

8/14 Update: gameplay videos: http://djhero.com/music/difficulty/
Most recently added was the Paper Planes vs. Eric B. Is President mix

8/12 Update: songs...

8/5 Update: Six new confirmed songs from gamespot (below in the confirmed song list, marked by a NEW). Thanks to AbXtreme for the info.

7/29 Update: DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Flash confirmed to be in the game via DJ Hero twitter. Also there will apparently be a special Eminem/Jay-Z edition of the game. It is called the Renegade edition and will come with a special hard-shell case that converts into a stand for the turntable controller, as well as an advanced turntable controller and a 2-disc CD compilation by Jay-Z and Eminem with unreleased tracks. The Renegade edition will cost $200. They said those two were very involved with the game

here are pics of the renegade edition:

Hardshell Case:
http://twitpic.com/c0zdx

Turntable Stand:
http://twitpic.com/c0zj3

The Renegade Turntable:
http://twitpic.com/c0zq2

It has premium metal controls and a different finish. Looks pretty cool.

They also tweeted (or twitted or whatever you kids are calling it) "In West Philadelphia Born and Raised." Hmmm does this mean we will be seeing the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme in the game? Here's hoping.

I was unaware that twitter ever had useful information. I learned something today. I thought it was just for people who wanted to know when Rasual Butler was takin' a shit. Anyway, apparently there's gonna be some big news tomorrow so stay tuned.

7/28 Update: Haven't updated this in a while. My bad. New songs added below, for one, marked again by a * (scratch that, see below in this update). A new gameplay video that confirmed two new songs (new mix) is also linked below in the videos section. Also DJ Jazzy Jeff confirmed in that video (at least he did the mix, don't know if he's playable yet) I've also put the confirmed songs in order for your convenience and contrary to what I just said new songs will be marked with a shiny red *NEW*. I just think it's easier to read that way. I'll be searching for other confirmed stuff besides what other posters have said and will update accordingly.

7/3 Update: Two new gameplay videos of grandmaster flash vs. Gary Numan and Herbie Hancock vs. N.E.R.D. Check below in the videos section for links.

Also apparently day 1 DLC is planned for this game, and will come out regularly (possibly every week like GH)

http://www.totalvideogames.com/DJ-Hero/news/Day-1-DLC-Planned-For-DJ-Hero-14223.html

7/1 Update: New confirmed songs can be seen below, shown by a * in the list.

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/07/01/inside-dj-hero-grandmaster-flash-on-games-big-names-ideas/

Apparently, DJ Grandmaster Flash has been heavily involved with this game.

"He provided the voiceovers for the gameplay tutorial and, of course, will appear as a character in the game."

"He got on board because he believed the DJs that Activision were seeking out at the time were authentic; names like DJ Shadow, DJ AM, DJ Z-Trip and the still-unconfirmed DJ Jazzy Jeff."

6/21 Update:
More Songs! (see below or links) and added a videos section

http://news.absolute-playstation.com/sony/news/ps3-dj-hero-tracklist-revealed-gameplay-details

6/18 Update:
The game with the turntable controller will reportedly cost $119.99. This seems a little pricey to me, but judge for yourself. (also Band Hero bundle for $200 lol).

That pretty much means $129.99 or worse 139 in Canada (in case me, toymachine, mithin, or jprez wants to know >_>)

The game is currently scheduled for release in Q3 2009.

(Temp box art on IGN, but I like it )

Gameplay:
There are three main gameplay mechanics: Pressing/holding buttons on the disc, scratching, and using the crossfader. As the notes scroll towards you, you press the corresponding button on the controller (Green/Red/Blue) just like in Guitar Hero. Yay!

But Wait! There's more! Yes, as you hold down the buttons, you have to scratch in the direction indicated on the hold notes at the right time. Judging by the expert gameplay video on the DJ Hero website, this can get pretty complex. There are also freestyle scratching sections.

Lastly, with your off hand, you have to flick the crossfader left or right when the left or right side of the note track moves outward. You must to this in certain sections before hitting notes in those sections. You also have the Euphoria (star power) button to hit with that hand.

This either makes perfect sense to you, in which case you'll think this game looks kinda cool, or you are totally confused right now. If you still have an interest in the game after knowing the basic gameplay, read on, future fake DJ!

-Game Modes: DJ vs. DJ, DJ + DJ, DJ + Guitar, Party Play
-Supports: DJ Turntable, Guitar, Mic
-Confirmed characters: Grandmaster Flash, DJ Shadow, DJ AM, DJ Z-Trip, DJ Jazzy Jeff *NEW*, DJ Flash *NEW*

I saw the thread showing part of the controller, but this is the first I've seen with any actual gameplay in it. They also explain what the crossfader does, etc. Looks kinda weird.

Eminem and Jay-Z confirmed

Article on Kiss 98.5's Website (radio station):

Quote:

Music by Eminem and Jay-Z will be included in DJ Hero, a new video game in the Guitar Hero series featuring hip-hop, electronic and R&B music. A special version of the DJ culture game will include CD compilations from both rappers, as well as an advanced turntable controller. "DJ Hero will give people all over the chance to experience the music from the other side of the turntables," Em says. DJ Hero is due in the fall. [/url]

From that demonstration it seems like a pretty fun game. I still don't get how are you supposed to know how many times you have to "scratch" on "scratch sections" (did I create a new name? ) though.

Yes it is kind of confusing, they said you can scratch all the time and even rewind the track to get more points. So theoretically, couldn't you rewind the track repeatedly for mass score?

It still looks kinda interesting though

Seems a bit interesting, but I'm not entirely sure I dig the music.

I was really hoping for a track listing that was composed of mostly just house and similar electronica. And wait, I heard DJ Shadow would be in it? No mention of him so far, though. Was that just a rumor?

I really hope not.

Seriously? No mention of him? Have you been paying attention? Most of the mixes in the game seem to be his. He is even a character you play as.

I meant no mention of him in this particular thread. I was under the impression he'd come up quickly in this thread.

I haven't looked very far into it though, either. I didn't know he was going to be a playable character. Pretty cool.

I haven't heard much of it though. I haven't really figured out if it is just mixes, or if there are any single songs, you know? If there are any single songs rather than all mixes, I'd really like to see Organ Donor, of course.

I guess I'll add that into the OP then, lol. If you find any other tidbits feel free to let me know.

It seems like the game is going to be almost if not all mixes because one of the main game mechanics seems to be using the crossfader to switch between tracks (judging by the gameplay)

Edit again: On the DJ Hero site there are a few gameplay videos, and they all show 'x song vs. x song.' So there are no just playing straight single songs. However they aren't all remixes as far as I can tell. It does confirm two DJ Shadow mixes in there somewhere. Sorry I don't really know all the DJ terminology and stuff so I'm just posting what I read

In one of the interviews they mention DJ Shadow as a player. As for a majority of the songs being his mixes, I base that on the fact that most of the announced songs have (DJ Shadow Mix) next to them.

Well only a couple of the ones on the DJ Hero site have DJ Shadow on them. But at least we have confirmation on that one. If you know any songs/artists I've missed let me know.

Also added some gameplay description in there because I know I didn't really get it that much when I first saw it (i.e. it took me some time to realize you had to scratch while holding buttons).
