(CNN) -- Entertainer Michael Jackson was taken to a hospital on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest, sources briefed on the situation told CNN.

Paramedics revived Jackson before taking him to the hospital.

Brian Oxman, a Jackson family attorney, said he was told by brother Randy Jackson that Michael Jackson collapsed at his home in west Los Angeles Thursday morning.

Family members were told of the situation and were either at the hospital or en route.

Fire Capt. Steve Ruda told CNN a 911 call came in from a west Los Angeles residence at 12:21 p.m.

Ruda said Jackson was treated and transferred to the UCLA Medical Center.

Asked specifics of the patient's condition, he said he could not discuss them because of federal privacy laws.

The music icon from Gary, Indiana, is known as the "King of Pop."

Jackson is the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family.

... you know what "cardiac arrest" is right? It's not a state that you live in like a coma or unconsciousness. It's like a heart attack except worse. My great grandpa went through it once and the doctors said the only reason he survived is because he was at the hospital when he had it.

I'm so confused about this. All my friends are telling me he's dead yet I can't seem to find a source. This is a ridiculously critical time and I imagine a shit-ton of misinformation coming up.

Either way, I don't think there's much hope at this point. His family says he's in really bad shape and I doubt he'll pull through. This is pretty saddening, actually. It makes you feel pretty bad for all the jokes people make about him and the shit he's been through...

EDIT: Well, all the signs say he's dead. It's weird, though. CNN's saying they haven't confirmed it; just that he's in a coma. I dunno.

yeah, even if he is still alive, I think he's in bad enough shape that he is pretty much dead, it's to recent to report though. he's most likely dead, but it's just so recent that it isn't fully reported.

This is just sad either way

I don't think you guys understand how this reporting works. Everyone is citing each other. Here's how it actually looks:

-Everyone knows Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest and is now in a hospital.
-TMZ reported he's dead, Reuters cited TMZ.
-LATimes reported he's dead, MSNBC and NPR cite them.

"Facts" are in low supply right now, personally I'm going to just wait an hour or two for the dust to settle.
