I used the search function and all I found was a thread about country guitarists vs. others, so I figured, other genres have a thread, why not country?
I'm pretty intense into metal, it is my favorite genre. I like thrash metal, black metal, death metal, blackened death metal (Behemoth <3), melodic death metal, etc. But ealier this summer I got into country music, and I like it a lot! I started with some early albums from the band Alabama, and some Brad Paisley albums. It's very emotional music! But good country is hard to find. Taylor Swift is very popular but to me she sounds more like a typical pop singer with a tiny bit of country influence. The Rascal Flatts sound to me like Nsync with a little bit of country haha. So I was hoping for some people well versed in country to give me some recommendations! Hahaha. You can discuss any country music you like here. I hope there's enough country fans to at least keep this thread alive . _________________

I find that country is a lot like rap music. You hear a whole lotta shit on the radio and its all sorts of bad, but then there is some real good music if you hear it someplace else. Kieth Urban is a sick guitar player and on the radio though. check out this one, Rollercoaster
This, on the other hand, is hilarious- Gin and Juice
My friend made a good point when he said that real country is not about trucks. Whenever my mom listens to the local pop country station, it sounds like there are 2 artists (one Taylor Swift(who is hawt) and one Paul Brant). And this is coming from a guy who likes DragonForce! _________________

I've heard a couple of good Country songs in my day, but I'd never admit that to anyone I knew in person.
I'd never spend money on a country CD, that's for sure. _________________

This is good. This is the kind of country I like; country that's heavier on the guitars and solos. To me, music is about more than a "nice voice". I usually see a lot more variation in guitar music than in vocals. Thus, for me, guitar virtuosos > people with "nice voices". My love of metal has caused me to expect guitar solos in everything .
I'd also prefer country that's "darker", and by that I mean the mood is sadder and not so upbeat. Any such recommendations? _________________

I also really like Brad Praisley. He is a very popular country music artist, but he is REALLY talented. He's also got some awesome instrumental stuff ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtNC_mYvAHc ).
EDIT: And country leads to other awesome genres, like Southern Rock, Alternative Country, and Cowpunk
Also, GlassDragon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothabilly but if that's not it, there's other genres listed. |

There's also Southern Rock which I love (compared to my hate for country) that you might listen to.
Well being on this forum you already know most of the bands and songs, Skynyrd, Allman bros, Creedence, Outlaws... so on and so forth _________________

Pinmonkey is a lesser-known country band that has some badass harmonies, and manages to maintain a country sound while being incredibly catchy and pop-ish at the same time.
It's hard to find their stuff on YouTube and other places, but here's their first single and their only big hit, "Barbed Wire and Roses":

Thats a pretty dumb point of view, there are plenty of other musicians inspired by Cash that you would probably also enjoy. _________________
