also I was one of the OFMG WHAMMY EVERYTHING FOR MORE POINTS crowd - after being told it was true by a couple people - for a while until I finally caught on that it was a load of crap all on my own (I remember conclusively disproving it to myself by testing on the intro to Surrender, playing through those first intro GY sustains first whammying like hell on all of them and then normally and getting the same score).

To this day I still on occasion hear someone go "DUDE WHY ARENT YOU WHAMMYING YOU GET MORE POINTS" and they don't believe me when I tell them whammying is only for SP sustains...

My friend still thinks that whammying=More Points to this day. Actually last weekend we were playing RB2(He's the drummer), and we were at 4 1/2 stars towards the end of "Aqualung", and I hear "DUDE! Use that whammy bar, It gets you more points and makes the stars(Ratings) fill faster". I was debating whether I should face palm, or waste my time explaining it...

Funny thing, is I've explained before how the Bar does nothing other than increase your SP/OD on those phrases(And yanno, change pitch on a hold).

Also, He's played Every Incarnation of Guitar Hero and Rock Band except for Rock The 80's, and has beaten almost every song in those games on expert..so I'm confused as to how he doesn't know this.

I thought the whammy bar gave you more points, and I didn't know you could let go of the strum bar on a held note.

I 'discovered' HOPOs on Free Bird Hard and thought I was glitching the game on those slow notes at the beginning when I was hitting them without strumming. Then I wondered why it didn't work for all the notes. It took me a while to figure it out (then the game became much easier)

WHAT?!?! WHAMMYING DOESN'T GIVE YOU MORE POINTZ?!?!

Actually I would have really said that just a few months ago, but one of my first major misconceptions was your points were dependent on your percentage...and that SP only kept you from failing. Multiplier = lolwut?

It was months playing GH1 until I realized SP wouldn't last longer if you kept combo. Yes I thought SP duration hadn't to do with measures but with if you were hitting notes or not... I went from Easy to Expert with this in mind!

It took me 2 failures on Talk Dirty to Me on Easy to realise you had to strum.

I don't know...they think that activates it...they're stupid They also think hitting as much as you can during a drum fill gets you more points so they randomly flail their arms around to hit every pad as fast as they can.

I must have been the only person who didn't think that more whammy = more points...
I did think how long SP would last had to do with how many notes you were hitting though. Probably because it lasted different amounts of time in different places. It took me a long time to figure that one out.

Hmm ... I didn't think you had to strum, first of all. I remember I almost complained to the store manager that their guitar was broken before I noticed there was a strum bar and it MIGHT be a good idea to try STRUMMING it.

Besides that, I think that's about it, really.

I had a few misconceptions about the game, and they kept changing until I discovered ScoreHero.

First, when I first saw the game at a Circuit City with friends, I saw my friend's hand moving on the neck and I only thought you had to push down the buttons at the right time. I quickly played the game after him thinking I'd demolish him because I played a real string instrument, but then I realized you had to strum as soon as I got the guitar on my person. I only got four stars on Carry On Wayward Son on Medium.

I now had basically the opposite idea: you had to strum every note (like in Guitar Hero 1, but without the slight chance of hitting the HO/POs without strumming). I remember looking up a video of Trogdor and being amazed at the player's ability to strum everything.

So, I had misconceptions for awhile. But then again, at least I didn't read no manual. Reading is for wimps, idoneednoejukaton.

I thought you activated star power by pushing the whammy bar down.

This times a million. I can't believe I beat Medium on GH and GH2 thinking this.
