Go on! Check it out! This happened to me today while I was in the middle of browsing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr072YuO5wI
Whoring my own videos aside, I enjoy the new layout. It makes more information available in a smaller space, and I like the removal/replacement of star-based ratings.
Let's discuss our impressions of the new youtube ITT.

I sorta like it, it's just a bit confusing because like, it so small, it's just....weird. I guess it's just that in my 2 years or so on Youtube, seeing the exact same layout, makes me unuse to this type, so I guess I have to get used to it. :/ _________________

Hmm, still looks the same to me (and I cleared cache, etc.) Will update this post with my opinions when I get it to work. I assume I have some option to not update check somewhere... _________________

This. Even with clearing my cache, it's still exactly the same as before. _________________

Well, it's nothing special if you really want to know. It's just a lot more smaller with a wider screen and some other little stuff.
If someone could, take a pic of it for the people who can't view it. _________________

Are you talking about the HTML5 beta by any chance? Or the Feather beta?
EDIT: I guess not. Hm, wonder why that new layout isn't showing up. _________________

I never joined a beta. I went to youtube earlier today and it was the youtube we all know. I then visited later today and it was a very different youtube. There was even a window explaining that they changed the layout and they offered a "tour" showing you the new layout. Maybe people not seeing the difference are in other countries? I'm in Seattle, USA. Maybe Europeans don't see it yet? I have no idea why other people aren't seeing it.
I changed the linked video too if maybe that was causing the issue.
The best change IMO is putting the comment writing spot at the TOP of the comments section. Now I don't have to pause the video and scroll away from it to write something. Also, comment-specific commands like ratings and reply buttons are hidden and appear next to a comment when you mouse over it. |

That's actually a really nice change moving the comment box to the top... Hopefully they've got a grasp on the concept of threaded commenting. _________________

Looks nicer. I, too, like how the star rating isn't visible. Maybe people will be less prone to whoring themselves out for a high star rating (such as all those annotations that say "PLZ RATE 5 STARZ!!!" for some videos) if they think it's not ever visible?
I'm currently logged in and in the U.S., and still see no difference. Maybe it will show up tomorrow? _________________

Actually they remove stars entirely. Now there's two buttons: thumbs up, and thumbs down. I'm not sure how people clicking these will show up though, and I don't know how older videos will translate to the new system.
Another thing you can't see in the picture is how nearly every aspect of the page has a popout window for additional information. The coolest one is the views; it shows you the video's insight (time graph of popularity) with dates and special markers for when something momentous happened> For example, a video that was floating around for a year with meager views that was suddenly posted on engadget or Digg and saw a huge spike in views will actually point out the spike on the graph and explain that it was embedded on X website at THIS point in the graph. |

It might be that html5 thing, but I tested it in Chrome and didn't see anything difference. _________________

I saw this change about a week ago. However, since that day, it's been back to normal. Even now, it's normal.

Here's an illustration of the embedded intuition for people who never seen it yet, for whatever reason.
This is the embedded intuition for my demonstration of a Guitar Hero strumbar used as a guitar kill switch. You see that nothing happened for a while (I had the video posted on my blog, which is pointed out on the graph.) Then I submitted the thing to hackaday.com and they featured it and embedded the video on their own site. Then several other blogs embedded it after seeing it on hackaday, and my views skyrocketed. Well, they didn't "skyrocket" in the full-on youtube sense, but they took off all of a sudden from nothing. The intuition thing shows how when my video showed up on x website how it affected my views. It even showed me places I didn't even know my video was being embedded. |

I'm pretty sure this has been around for a while, like almost 2 months. You just had to enable it.
Just click this to enable it and this to disable it. |
