I asked for tips on it on this site actually
When I get back to school i'll probably start working on 101% speedruns |
35 minutes?? I can speed run the game in 42 minutes (died 3 times) and only took two shortcuts (both in the second world). Even if I hadn't died, 35 minutes would still seem impossible. Are there THAT MANY shortcuts in this game?? I know that in DCK2, every level in the first world has a shortcut. Is there something like this in DCK1? Sorry, I haven't looked it up (the two I know, I found by myself). I just find 35 minutes quite impressive.
As for actual speedruns myself:
SMB3 100% - 58 minutes
LttP 100% - ~4 hours (rough estimate, I was on a trip and just wanted to try)
DKC1 - 42 minutes
DKC2 - 8 hours (lol, first time ever playing the game when it was released)
DKC3 - 2 hours (again, first time ever playing)
SMB3 and DKC1 are really the two games I ever really focus my time on speedruns. I could improve DKC1 by a few minutes. SMB3 100% will never improve. That was a freakin awesome run (no deaths ftw) and will be impossible for me to ever pull off again. Some of those levels are just hard to not die in; bound to happen when you play every level (at least you would think, didn't happen though). Also, I play on the consoles, no emulators for me.
As for the other games, LttP could definitely be improved as could the other two games, but I'm not worried about those :P |

I have a 100% completion run of Banjo-Kazooie (100% being all Jiggy's, Music Notes, Secret Eggs, Ice Key, Final Boss, and the final Bottles Bonus mini-games) In like 5 and a half hours. Idk if that's impressive or not but I thought it was cool :p
I also have a 34hr run (in 1 sitting) of FF7 but idk if that's impressive either |

Is this a 100% run? As in all items/upgrades/hearts? Still an impressive time though. I might have to try and best this :P |

Only game I have ever tried speed running was Fable on Xbox. I got roughly 2:10 and the SDA approved time is 1:51 I think, so I still have quite a bit to knock off. Maybe I should pick that up again. I just have to watch the current video and see where to improve (the guy said some of his battles were less than perfect, and watching what I did, I believe it) |

That's an any% time, the WR for 100% is around 2 hrs.
Give it a shot, I'd like some competition. _________________

In the 1st world map, if you have only one monkey, and press any button where the pathway bends between the first and second levels (you have to be precise and I think you need any early version of the game), you warp to the end of the level orangutan-gang, which is at the end of the third world. This saves me soooo much time, I couldn't do every level in 42, and I die alot trying to pull shenanigans.
there are skips in "slipslide ride" and "trick track trek" (after the big warp)
before the big skip are "Barrel canon canyon" (not tecnically, but close), "mine cart carnage," "stop and go station", "millstone mayhem," "vulture culture," and "tree top town" that I know of. |

Now that you mention it, I do know of the one in slip slide ride. That's how I actually passed that level for the first time ever XD I also knew about the one in mine cart carnage (my brother accidentally found that, he missed the barrel, lol) and the one in stop and go station (no clue how I found this one, also how I passed this level the first time ever). Barrel canon canyon is pretty technically close to being a shortcut. You hardly even have to play the level except for around the halfway mark.
Also, the first level of the snow world (yay for not remembering the names) has a shortcut at the end of the level during all that barrel shooting madness. On the 3rd barrel, it's really close to the bottom of the screen. Shoot straight down and it shoots you into another barrel that takes you to the end of the level. This is the best way to avoid all that moving-barrels-shooting-around-bees area Ironically, this, too, was the first way I ever passed the level. lol My step-dad and I found out about it by accident.
As for the glitch, I do remember reading somewhere about that. You do need an earlier game (or rom) for it too work. I remember trying but I never did get it (didn't try too hard, lol). We bought our copy of the game the week of it's release. I need to go look up the other shortcuts and tips on how to beat the game faster |

I've completed the Xbox Live demo of Sonic Unleashed in 1 minute, 57 seconds. I could probably be able to sub 1:55 if I try hard enough. _________________

Bumping an old thread, but it's speedrunning related so yeah. I will be recording a single segment Fallout 3 speedrun next week to submit to SDA. I can get a solid 35-40 mins on a good run so yeah, you guys should watch it when it is complete. _________________

Would that mean no Heart Containers? Cause... I imagine that would waste time collecting them XD. _________________
