Apparently it's sludge metal, so does anyone have any recommendations for other sludge metal? From what I've read Mastodon and Baroness have sludge metal influence, and I really like them too.
So yeah, any recommendations for sludge metal? |
Acid Bath
Big Business
Black Cobra
Conifer
Eyehategod
Harvey Milk
Melvins
Neurosis
Rwake
Torche |
Follow this man's list word for word. Especially Neurosis...
Oh totally forgot a good one- a newish sludgy band called "Howl" from the US and newly signed to relapse. Their EP is quality shit, and I have their LP on wax that I haven't been able to listen to yet, but the sweet artwork makes it look promising. |
Also, listen to Intronaut. _________________

Need some help finding song...I heard it on an internet radio station and right when I went to look at what it was, it had already changed on the website to the next song.
All I can tell was that it was a heavy metal/speed metal type song that I'm guessing the title is Blood on my Hands, at least that was said the most. I glanced at Youtube, but it wasn't Demons & Wizards, Morbid Angel, 32 Leaves, or The Used. Vocals were some regular clean style vocals and had double bass going at parts.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Metal-Archives shows 42 songs roughly titled 'Blood on My Hands.' Only a handful of the bands listed are power metal, so hopefully that helps. Honestly, I am surprised it wasn't Demons and Wizards... _________________

Listened to a few songs on Youtube. Pretty awesome stuff. I'll have to look into getting one of their CDs. Also, did they open for cynic when you saw them live? _________________

Nah, I know Demons and Wizards. The Blind Guardian singer and the Iced Earth guitar style are pretty recognizable. I don't believe it was a power metal song, but I'll take a look there and maybe I can figure it out, so thank you for that
*EDIT* And cutting out the death metal stuff and browsing bands, I don't think that it's the right title sadly. thanks for the help though. |

Yes, that's where i discovered them. Also got their double LP for a fair $15 after their set was done. _________________

Suffocation announced a headlining tour, being supported by The Faceless, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Decrepit Birth, and Fleshgod Apocalypse. My day just went from shit to awesome. _________________

After being nagged about it by friends for ages, I finally picked up Nightrage's Sweet Vengeance. Wow.... really good album, Tomas Lindberg are of course, kickass and Gus G playing in a Melo Death band is awesoooooome. _________________

I recently picked up Animals As Leaders self-titled album on a whim. I must say, this is easily one of the best Prog Metal bands I've ever heard, albeit they're only instrumental. I really enjoy "Behaving Badly" and "CAFO". Those are 2 songs with excellent main riffs (especially Behaving Badly, it's ingenious really.) |
Hell yeah, they were amazing at Summer Slaughter and I met Tosin Abasi. He's a really cool guy, but it sucked that they had no more medium shirts for their merch. _________________

Can anyone recommend me some stoner metal beyond Kyuss? I really love that sound and want to pursue it some more. _________________

Sleep is the greatest Stoner Metal band of all time.
Also, High on Fire is good. _________________

Nailed it.
Of those, Periphery (some songs have vocals), Chimp Spanner (lots of great ambient effects), and Keith Merrow (FREE album downloads on his website!) also use those low low 8 string guitars. Bulb does also, who is with Periphery, but also has a lot of (free) solo stuff. (Meshuggah also uses 8-strings and the crazy polyrhythms you'll find in AAL's work).
I don't think Blotted Science and Cloudkicker use those, but they still have that very similar sound. I would especially recommend Blotted Science, as Cloudkicker has less great songs.
The genre those people are using (somewhere between Math metal/djent/experimental/prog/tech/ambient metal) is as close as you're going to get to Animals as Leaders.
The other bands he listed are also great, but have a somewhat different sound... a few of them I need to go look up myself though *skitters away*. _________________
