Preggo again? Dayum girl. How are you gonna have time to teach all these kids to play Guitar Hero?
Maybe they'll have a separate division for preggo people.
Either way lilirock still #1 PMS guitar player Anyway this sounds like a great idea. I would totally participate even though I'm no good _________________

The conversation would go like this: "Hey mom can you drive me to a state so I can go against people in guitar hero?" "Wow what a waste of time." You can see my logic. But If I could come I think I'd do ok as long was I didn't choke and not everyone there was from SH |
What I would do in your situation is talk to your parents about the event and what it entails. Tell your parents you want to show them what competitive gaming is about and use it as a family bonding experience. They might be surprised when they find out people can travel the nation (and for some people, even the world) playing video games. It's a great opportunity.
If you need help on how to approach the subject, let me know and I'll help to the best of my ability.

Just curious... what is the reason that you wouldn't attend? Is it due to money or travel time? Lets say the Guitar Hero tournament didn't happen until August or so... if given enough notice in advance, would you try to make it?

Totally understandable, Lili. Congrats

It isn't all about skill! With the rules in place, strategy would be an important factor in the game. I'm glad to hear you would come out. Thanks for the support, and hopefully we'll see each other at an event later this year _________________

And being the first event is in Dallas, would be interesting if Phenom showed up. lol He can't path worth crap but if he chose the harder songs all the time then it probably wouldn't be much of a match for him since he seems to FC on queue. Would be interesting to see the outcome since so many want to see him match up against others (according to YT comments ). |
He wouldn't show up. They've ignored WCG the past 3 years when many people have told then to sign up. _________________

Definitely support this! although I'm not great at guitar hero, but no doubt they should definitely do something music game related for a change. _________________

Thanks so much for the positive feedback, everyone!! I really feel like with the news that came out today about the future of GH that this NEEDS to happen. Competitive gaming such as MLG needs stability. Changing titles every year would only hurt the ability to get this series into the league. With Warriors of Rock being the most competitive game in the series, this only makes sense. Now is the time!
...and lets face it, Activision will more than likely reboot the series in a few years. No reason to be gloom and doom... this could be the shot we need to take this game to the next level. Lets show Activision the amazing community we have!!!

Heck yes you should, Alec! Hope to see the WCG World Champion at an event if we can make this happen! _________________

This sounds cool, really hope I can somehow enter if this happens!
IMO I think there should be fewer songs on the list, 25 songs is a rather large amount to be fair. I think it should be lowered to maybe 15 or something. Also the idea of only harder songs as a tiebreaker sounds good. Maybe it should just be as a tiebreaker you can only choose songs from the demigod setlist.
Apart from that everything looks brilliant. Fingers crossed guys! |

I think that's a great idea if it goes ahead. Hopefully my sponsors would want to send me over some time in the future to play (yeah right they're not that rich).
Well we recently ran a national tournament here for WoR and I do believe we got a good set of songs/rules.
Your rules are spot on, and we made every match best of 3 and each player picks a song to veto (remove) then the 3 songs are randomly generated (or you can set it to have tiebreakers already set for each round if you wish) as lots of comps like to do for CS, etc. I don't know what format MLG uses though, I assume either straight double elim or pools to double elim. If pools to double elim they should pick the tiebreakers in the pools but leave it open in the bracket play.
For songs basically we agreed that we would use the last 10 songs in the game ( -FotS as that was set as the final song ala WCG rules) and we removed Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants basically because it's not hard except for 1 part and decided to add Ravenous since it was a song requiring a variety of techniques.
So we did a basic WCG rule format and ended up with the 10 songs of:
Ravenous
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due
This Day We Fight!
Sudden Death
Chemical Warfare
Deadfall
If You Want Peace... Prepare For War
Nemesis
Speeding (Vault Version)
Black Widow of La Porte
Final Song
Fury of the Storm
This game is obviously alot harder in general than GH5 which is good for the competitive community so I think it's best to stick to as many hard songs as possible (ie dont clutter up with easy songs) which is why looking back on the tournament Deadfall was probably the worst in that it's quite easy and way too short compared to the rest.
The tournament ran real well and I think the rules were great. Just throwing out some suggestions.
Another suggestion was if you want to save the big 3 (FotS, BWoLP, SD) they could be designated tiebreaker songs.
Edit: ZOMG Alec posted on SH and he's had an account for ages. |

I agree with massi4h with maybe keeping the hardest three as tie-breakers. I feel like if the players had the opportunity to choose, those three would just be selected over and over so I would like more variety in it all.
I would also think that song selection should be random. The most skilled players out there will have the full set of skills to play every pattern of notes possible and they will have the ability to do every path for all of these songs. I don't think someone should be able to win because they know 5 songs better than everyone else. The world champion should be able to do it all at any time. |
