Wow, thanks for the replies. I will most definitely be buying the iMac. There probably won't be any deals on that, but hey, you gotta get what you can work the best on. Sounds like doing a Hackintosh is more trouble than it's worth.
(I don't know why but I assumed ScoreHero would go all PC-fanboy on my ass, I was pleasantly surprised. I know little to nothing about processors and graphics cards and any stuff like that, I just know how to use CS5 like a boss and I want my computer to work for me ).
But yes, the 27inch iMac is pretty nice, I use it at work every day and I want one for at home too. Also, people complain about Apple prices on computers so much, but they forget that the iMac comes with an amazing screen (like what Joe said). I don't recommend Macs to people who don't need or can't afford them for their purposes, but in this industry it's pretty much standard. I'm sure they're overpriced to some extent but my Macbook Pro has been working since 2006 and I'd say that's a pretty good track record for a laptop; PC, Mac or otherwise. Well worth the money since I've used it every day for 5 years. _________________

Thanks for the replies guys. I'd build a rig myself, it's just that I want it by next Friday for Skyrim (I want it to be the single most orgasmic experience of my life), and I'm busy this weekend plus my only day off from school next week is on the 8th, where I'll be playing MW3. I've looked into building one myself several times before, but to be honest I was looking for a high-performance laptop over a tower (portability is key, my school just gave the OK for laptops in school which means I can play Skyrim during instructional time). Right now I'm eying the Asus (whom I'm a fan of) G74Sx A1, which has 12 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GTX 560M. I just have three questions:
1) I've heard a lot of different opinions on GPUs. Personally I prefer NVIDIA from experience, but which one is better for me? I've heard one is better in some games then the other, but I play a wide variety of games (MMOs, RTSs, RPGs). I can live with lower graphics in FPSs.
2) Which company/model does the best job with keeping laptops cool? My XPS overheats like a biiiiiitch, which stops it from running games it normally could run easily.
3) Exactly how much power am I sacrificing by going with a laptop over tower? I know tower PCs are much easier to keep up=to-date and are generally more powerful, but I've seen laptops with pretty amazing draw power and the mobility would make my life a hell of a lot easier
And as for making this a general computer thread, I'm done for that _________________

A Mac IS a PC anyways. I mean, it's not an IBM PC, or a Windows PC, or a Linux PC, or a Solaris PC (and if you're using Solaris you have more problems than understanding what a PC is, anyways).
But yeah, PC = Personal Computer. A Mac definitely fits that bill, regardless of a brand.

Off-topic: isn't that such a weird and semi-creepy point to hit in life? Where all of a sudden you realize that wait a minute, you could maybe just shovel money at your problem? And your problem would be solved... and you'd still have enough money left over for whatever random things you were going to spend it on anyway? CRAZY TIMES. (Doubly so if it makes you remember conversations you'd had in years previous with parents / employers / university folks, remembering how you'd passionately lobbied for some-or-other free software solution... which you are now sympathetically considering from the other side of the decision-making process.)

Random aside: I'm always glad to hear folks speaking well of the nifty high-end ATI processors, for (a) bland "yay for my corporate overlords!" reasons and (b) because I'm so jaded by the damn things in my lab. "Hey, look what I have here: a FirePro GL V9800 board! Look what I get to do with it: run it through the same conformance-related paces every other board is submitted to." I'm glad when at least someone is using them in some sort of reasonably awesome capacity. (Bonus points when it's not yet another tale of some dude and his BitCoin-mining setup.) _________________

I can't stand nVidia cards, and I have my reasons. They're generally stupid reasons, but enough to piss me off. Something along the lines of, I had two Nvidia 9600GT's, on an Intel board, before they supported SLI. Turns out... SLI WAS supported on those boards... it was all software. You can get an SLI patch that patches the nvidia drivers, and it enables SLI... and works very well. When nVidia found out about this, they patched the drivers the very next release. It then became a cat and mouse game, to basically, buy one of our shiny motherboards if you want SLI.
I also can't stand nVidia motherboards, but as I said, this was last generation, the Core 2 Duo generation. Same kind of crap going on, needing to upgrade the motherboard to run the Q9550 processor I won from an Intel contest. The 630i, 680i could handle it, but the 650i was unsupported. The 650i is just a single slot PCIx 680i... and they just simply decided not to write a BIOS for it to utilize that processor.

1. nVidia is best for World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and the Batman games. ATI is best for most to all the Steam games that are available, and definitely is the best for games that use the Source engine. Otherwise they're pretty similar in performance.
2. Laptop cooling is ALWAYS an issue in gaming rigs. There just simply isn't enough room inside to cool everything off. If you're running a gaming laptop, its a must to get yourself a laptop cooler. Its basically the same idea as getting an aftermarket cooler for a graphics card. Sure the standard one works fine, but it gets stupid hot, and it shortens the life of the card.
3. The Core i5 in laptops are the same as Core i3 in Desktops, performance wise. They just simply require less voltage due to #2, heat issues. They are also more expensive, and the graphics chip lines of laptops are also less powerful than desktops, also for the above reason. I don't think a single laptop can play Battlefield 3 on Ultra right now. Two ATI 6950's in SLI ($500 in cards), can with ease.
What I find best to carry desktops along for the ride, is get yourself a strap for it. I have a harness for Trogdor, as I go to my friend's every weekend with my tower. Makes life a ton easier going up and down stairs. _________________
