Extremely unlikely. If the author released the source code, at least then people could continue working on it, but as it stands, it's dead in the water. |

I've got a problem using Feedback.
Yesterday I started creating my own first custom. (Yah)
But when I wanted to continue today I couldn't because Feedback refused to start up.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? _________________

Probably try re-installing it. If it just flat out won't work for you anymore, you could consider trying EOF, which will be able to import your Feedback chart. |

Actually, I released the source code years ago... I figured nobody was interested. Maybe they just never found it ;)
If there are reasonably skilled coders floating around that would want to maintain it, I'm happy to help out. I just haven't had time for it for a few years >_< .. It was destined to become a full game, in-game DLC (connecting to customhero.net) and scoretracking with scorehero.com, but I never had the art/UI resources to do it... or time.
It's written in C/C++, it's cross platform (runs on consoles, etc).. uses a custom engine that I do actively maintain. It probably doesn't build against the current release of my engine, but I'm sure it would be easy to get up to date...
It should also be noted that this was a quick throw-together after-work project, the code's a bit shite, but it wouldn't take too much to polish up if a dev community were interested in jumping on.
My email is turkeymanatgmaildotcom. Best to get me there, I'm not reliable checking forum messages.
Side note: Holy shit, my thread is still at the top of the list! ;) |

Holy **** I never thought I'd see the day you posted again. Hopefully someone will be willing to at least update dB to have the essentials for basic RB customs. I don't use it anymore but it's still great for beginners. _________________

I still use it for the Anchor function, very helpful with Touhou songs (I hate it when BPM constantly changes in a song :/).
Great program, crashes quite a bit though. |

I was just about to say in a post, "I wonder what TurkeyMan has been up to." Nice to hear from you. I still use feedback after all of these years. Although I haven't played customs in forever, I still like to chart an FL Studio song once in a while, and look through all of the old charts I have.

What's the state of GH/RB customs? Are the recent versions of these games customisable in any way?
360/PS3 kinda ruined the customisability with their disc encryption. I thought it kinda died after everyone was on 360...
I'd still love to make an open source engine to PLAY these songs, rather than just an editor. Needs art and UI talent, of which I am severely lacking, and could never find.
It could even run on PS3... that machine's severely hacked now. |

Nearly fully-functional RB3 customs are now considered easy to do on Xbox 360 (as long as you don't have the most recent title update):
http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33768
The hardest thing to pull off is custom pro guitar, since it is undocumented. We've been able to determine most of the techniques for authoring them, but there are a few things yet to figure out (ie. pro guitar slides). Besides EOF, there is another pro guitar editor that ZiggyXNAMVP created:

If you are itching to get an open source game up to snuff, it might be worth helping the FoFiX devs, they REALLY need help if they expect to get it working well. Performous is an up and coming open source software as well. As far as closed source, though, my vote goes to Phase Shift (the only PC rhythm game that supports Rock Band style pro guitar/bass charts). |
