You can always just make charts of songs that have songs that are downloadable on the bands profile/myspace/purevolume... Etc...

Then you can use an .ips file (program = lunar ips) then you can just give people the patch + lunar ips so it's quick and easy. But yeah. Don't use songs that aren't free for stuff like this.

I could try that...
some of the songs I made are on the bands' myspace

But I was thinking,
would it be possible at all just to give people directions where to get it?
since most of the stuff I made is up for torrent downloads anyway, if I could just say "get it at mininova.org" or whatever, would that still abide by the rules or no?

As long as it's just saying where to go, but not posting a link to the music files, that should be fine.

As long as the music is copyrighted by law, there will be no discussion of how to illegally obtain it on these forums, no matter how rare or obscure it is. No links to download either.

Thanks for asking and not just doing it anyway.

Personally I'd like to see the song Frantic Disembowelment by Cannibal Corpse. It has some pretty technical guitar work.

I like the idea of a metal edition and I'm sure it's all personal preference with the bands, but maybe you should change the name from "Metal Edition" to "Extreme Metal Edition" lol I think the least heavy band in that listing is Black Label Society. The rest of the bands look to be hardcore/death metal. What about thrash, speed, and power? Not exactly alot of variety there under a general term of "Metal Edition".

And I'm not bashing anything. Simply curious.

Where's the old school stuff? Venom, Death, Cannibal Corpse? What about Hammerfall? And maybe instead of "Seasons Whither" do "Ten Ton Hammer"?

Well, as you've probably guessed, I most prominently listen to death metal, melodic death metal and metalcore, which is one of the reasons there's a lot of that on there.

And about the other metal genres:
I never really liked power metal, but that's not the main reason I don't have any on here. There are a couple power metal bands that I can actually stand listening to, and I was thinking of putting them on there for some more variety, but most of the songs would either be too boring to play, or too insane to play. What I've noticed about death metal, melodic death metal and metalcore, is that they pretty much have all the things that would be fun to play in a guitar hero game, like fast strumming, super sexy melodies, and insane solos (except metalcore doesnt have as many solos, instead they have breakdowns, which still makes for an interesting song to play).
If you have any good power metal you want to see on this though, you're free to request it, cause like I said, there are still 5 songs I haven't chosen, and all the ones I have (and haven't already finished), are still subject to change.
As for thrash metal, I actually don't know a lot of good thrash metal bands, so again, if you want to recommend any, go right ahead.
And speed metal isn't a real genre, it's just a classification for any metal song that is fast.

If you have a song to request, then by all means, request it, and I'll get around to making it eventually. And I put Seasons Wither on there not because it's a good song, but because it has a lot of interesting melodies and other parts that are fun to play.

I know you're not supposed to use copyrighted music, but what about some Iron Maiden? I mean, come on Transylvania? That song would be sweet to put in guitar hero!

And to make sure everyone gets the same mp3, buy them off iTunes, (buy the way Iron Maiden is iTunes Plus = no DRM!!!) And then provide a link to it on your thread. The link takes you to an apple page which opens the album on the iTunes music store. Personally, I wouldn't mind spending $30 - $40 on music if I got a whole set on content (Like movies, the various screens, guitar skins, maybe even chars, )

It could have like 40 songs, whole new set of content, etc. I would defenitly get this.

What does everyone think?

I got some bands you should like and would work great for this. First is Testament who goes from old school thrash to practically death metal on the album "Demonic". The album "First Strike Is Still Deadly" is a re-recording of their old stuff and is a must get. The two below are some of the harder stuff, though there are others I like more.

Testament - DNR
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udSe5GGWz04

Testament - Low
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGrPrHyM2YM

Annihilator is always good for some straight forward thrash, though finding their best stuff on Youtube is always easy. A couple below would be good examples.

Annihilator - Syn. Kill 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlLPGRGQVDU

Annihilator - Striker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULXT9xgSsDs

Annihilator - Alison Hell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py5h80QI3hE

I can find some more along with power metal stuff, but I'll work on that more later

Normally I wouldn't plug my own charts, but since you're specifically looking for metal...

I've done charts for songs by All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Protest the Hero, and August Burns Red... check out the link in my signature if any of those bands interest you.
