|
|
Since there's one on the RB side that's prospering so well, I thought a similar reference for the highest and lowest notes in the series to sing should also be brought here for the daredevils amongst us.
All notes stated are in scientific notation, with middle C being C4.
Feel free to let me know of any that I missed
===
High notes (G#5 and higher)
ABC [Band Hero] - G#5
End of chorus 2 - "That's how easy love can be / Sing a simple melody / One two three, you and me!"
The phrase in question is repeated once more for the ending, where the "Oh! Oh! Oh baby" line also holds that same note.
Back in the Saddle [GHSH] - G#5
Ending - "Ridin' high! / Ridin' high! / Ridin' high! / Alrighty! / Oh!"
The notes in question slide up from F#5 to the target note, all at the end, with the exception of the "alrighty" line that slowly dips an octave down.
Beat It [WT] - G#5
"Hee! Hee hee! / Oh boy!"
The ending for this one is completely littered with Michael Jackson's trademark precise high vocals. None of them go any higher than G#5 tho.
Cryin' [WoR] - G#5
Bridge - "Yeah, our love, sweet love, ain't love / 'Til you give your heart away / Yeah that's right"
The note starts off as an E5, but shifts up to the peak of G#5 abaout 60% of the way in.
Rock and Roll Band [DLC] - G#5
End of chorus 2 - "Love and music / Play, play, play yeah yeah yeah"
Chemical Warfare [WoR] - A5
End of chorus 2 - "Nothing to see where the sleeping souls lie / Chemical warfare"
Space Truckin' [GH Van Halen] - A5
Ending - "Yeah, yeah, yeah space truckin' / Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah"
Sympathy for the Devil [GH5] - A5
Ending - "Ooh woo woo, Ooh woo woo / Ooh woo woo, ah yeah!"
Several of these high "oohs" are present throughout the minute+ long ending, and very few have been able to pull the entire thing off in the original octave.
Under Pressure [GH5] - A5
Bridge - "Keep coming up with love when it's so slashed and torn / Why, why? / Why?"
This note slides up from A4 up to G5 where it is held for several measures, and then steps up to A5 just before it finishes.
Bohemian Rhapsody [WoR] - Bb5
Opera section - "Beelzebub has a devil put inside for me / for me / for me"
===
Low Notes (F#2 and lower):
King Nothing [GH Metallica] - F#2
Bridge - "I want that star / I want it now / I want it all and I don't care how"
No Leaf Clover [GH Metallica] - F#2
Choruses 1 & 2 - "And then it comes to be that the / Soothing light at the end of your tunnel"
The note in question starts on a Bb2, and then slides down to F#2 close to its completion.
The Sad Punk [DLC] - F#2
Intro - "I smell smoke that comes / From a gun named extinction"
Do You Feel Like We Do? (Live) [GH5] - F2
Talkbox solo (2 occurences) -
* "Do you feel like we do? / That's all right / That's all right here tonight" (The word "feel" starts on a G#2 and slides down to F2.)
* "Good time, good time, good time / Good time tonight"
The Geeks Were Right [DLC] - F2
Last verse - "When I saw the future / The geeks were right"
Waidmanns Heil [WoR] - F2
Verse 2 - "Ein Schmaltier auf die Läufe kommt / Hat sich im hohen Ried gesonnt"
The note in question slides up to C3 from its base position.
Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants [WoR] - E2
Verse 2 (2 occurences) -
* "Ooh baby you gnaw me / Down to the bone
* "Well there's so much you never told me / And there's not much I want to know
On both occurrences, the "me" line is slid down to its note from A2.
Ticks [DLC] - E2
Several occurences -
Verse 1 - "Everytime you take a sip / In this smoky atmosphere"
Verse 2 - I'd hate to waste a night like this / I'll keep you safe, you wait and see"
I'm sure there's more, but I may need to double check somehow.
Welcome to My Nightmare [DLC] - Eb2
Verse 2 - "You know inside you feel / Right at home / Here"
The note in question slides down to there from Eb3.
Fame [GH5] - D2
Ending - "Fame fame fame fame / Fame fame fame fame / Fame fame fame fame / Fame fame fame fame / Fame fame fame fame / Fame fame fame, fame / What's your name?"
Ring of Fire [GH5] - D2
Ending - "And it burns, burns, burns / The ring of fire / The ring of fire / The ring of fire" _________________

Well, when I wrote the list I had managed to analyse much of the on-disc setlists. Going through how high the selections go -
Plug In Baby - F#5
Moe Than a Feeling - G5
Woman From Tokyo - G5
Looks That Kill - D5 (a little weak, there's even several tracks in the GH5 setlist that went higher than that).
Still, none of them are high enough to be placed in the OP, but I appreciate the input _________________

I love being able to hit every high note on this list but none of the low ones
Oh, and what are the highest notes in Painkiller, just for reference? I'm pretty sure it's in the "Chromium plated" etc. part, right when it modulates up a semitone (I think) from the "Faster than a laser bullet" part which is kinda high to begin with _________________

For "Painkiller", its highest is actually marked as an F# in four different occurences (therefore it doesn't qualify ):
1 - The "Oh" after the second chorus
2 - The "Oh" after the third chorus
3 - "Pain! Pain! Killer! / Killer!"
4 - "Wah! Pain!" (just before the long note ending)
Hope this helped yksi _________________

I think my throat would implode if I tried to hold a G#5 for more than a second. Low notes are a bit of a problem too sometimes if I've not practised them before. Sucks to be a mediocre baritone
PS: Octave shifting exists, luckily.
PS2: A suggestion: You could link to an online keyboard or something that allows people to check how really high or low those notes are. In a quick check I haven't found one with a "sustain" option, which would make it better. I'm sure you can find something ;)

It is.
I can't believe I missed that one. (Well, I didn't play a lot of VH but I did do a lot of RB2) _________________

Yes, in Rock Band 2 the note is an A5. However, a completely different harmony part was charted in that section for GH Van Halen, therefore in comparison making the "thousand suns" part an E5. I'm sure the charting differences between the two were brought up on one of my streams once
And yes Lupo, good idea with the keyboard; I'll locate one and put it in the OP _________________

I THINK (Someone with a better musical hearing please check) I've spotted a G#5 in I Was Made For Loving You (KISS DLC). Check this vid, minute 2:46: I CAN'T get enoooouuuugh...
Singing to your iTunes library while doing homework. Priceless

What a coincidence; it appeared on my iPod rotation on the way to work some point last week and I thought "is this a contender?" and had to check it out somehow. But then I also realised that the Kiss songs in GH are all re-records.
That said, the vox chart (c/o sherbearrrr) showed that the "I can't get enough" line was written differently, meaning the highest it goes is only an F#5. So, not quite high enough, but glad to see someone's been paying attention in class
I did however notice that "Cryin'" should've made the list, so that's there now. _________________

I used my keyboard and found some low notes on Warriors of Rock. Correct me if I'm wrong 'cause my results are somewhat inaccurate.
- The lowest notes in This Day We Fight are E2s
- In I Know What I Am, "So let me be" is also E2
- In No More Mr. Nice Guy, the phrase "I've got no friends 'cause they read the papers" descends to a C2
- In There's No Secrets This Year, the phrase "I'll make it perfectly clear" descends to a C2 |

In the case of those notes, I can hit them all, so I don't think you got it quite right.
"This Day We Fight!" - I know this one like the back of my head; the lowest note in there ("For this, I was chosen") is actually a C#3.
"I Know What I Am" - Given that the two vocalists sing on the same octave, the "so let me be" part is actually an E3.
"No More Mr. Nice Guy" - You got it right with the lowest phrase, however that's a C#3 there.
"There's No Secrets This Year" - Being daredevil enough to get THAT in its original octave, one of the last "there's no secrets this year" phrases goes as low as an A2. Your phrase prediction actually is a B2.
I hope that serves as some clarification _________________
