|
|
Okay, so me and my band (consists of only 3 people, drummer, (me) bassist+vocalist, and guitarist+vocalist.) are doing a project at school. We're performing a song for our school's "protest art gallery".
We are trying to decide what song to play. We are not required to play our own material, and to make things much simpler we are going to cover a song.
What I'm asking is if anybody here can give me song suggestions. The song must meet all the criteria:
1. Must be a 'protest' song. (protesting racism, etc.)
2. Must be under 4 minutes, or have sections that can easily be removed to meet the time limit.
We must have 4 songs. (but we're playing 6) We have decided on four, but need 2 more.
Thanks for all your help guys!

(Setlist)
Land of Confusion- Disturbed (yes, I know this is a song by Genesis)
B.Y.O.B. -System of a Down (Yes, I'm serious)
________
________
(The last 2 we're playing simply because we can, these are exempt from the requirements)
Come Clarity-In Flames
My Sweet Shadow- In Flames (go figure, i idolize that band because of this song) _________________

War Pigs, clearly. Hand Of Doom too, as it's one of the best anti-drug songs ever made. Both songs are by Black Sabbath. I'm not sure how to cut them to make the time limit as they both are pretty long but these are prime choices for your criteria. _________________

Any Rage Against the Machine song. Easy to play, sound good, and as "protest-y" as it gets. _________________

i was about to say War Pigs as well, but it's far too long. OP, try some Rise Against or more Sabbath stuff. if your school won't mind: BYOB? is Crazy Train a protest song? Icky Thump is good, as is Another Brick in the Wall (or other Pink Floyd)

How about Protest the Hero? (lame attempt at humor)
Anyway, I'd suggest Orange Crush. It has something to do with the use of Agent Orange |

Most Bob Dylan songs off Times They Are a Changin' or Freewheelin': Masters of War is the greatest protest song ever written, and certainly the angriest. It's a little long, but you can cut out verses as you see fit. _________________

Hmm... A protest song? Really (and I'm not sure if this is really advice or anything)... I'd say you could still play any song you want to... Just throw the school some [weakass] interpretation you have on how it is a "protest song".. _________________

Or you could use the original Dead Kennedys version if you want the audience to understand some of the lyrics. That said, most DK songs would work. Also see Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, Propagandhi, Good Riddance, most punk bands, etc. _________________
