On seeing the Dark Knight Rises the second time, there were probably 10-15 people who left after the Bat plane blew up over the ocean. I was soooooooo tempted to yell that the movie isn't finished yet, but I figured it's their loss.

Just saw Dredd 3D. I'm copypasting what I said on Facebook here:

Okay, new rule. It should be illegal for cinemas to only show a 3D version of a movie if a 2D version exists - they should be forced have parallel showings at parallel showtimes. 3D adds literally nothing (especially for those with visual issues who can't see the 3D effect anyway). It's genuinely painful for those of us who need glasses in order to see already to stick more stupid 3D glasses on top, and the fact that they sell you the glasses with the ticket is nothing but price gouging - an extra 23% on top of the already too expensive ticket is immoral.

And the film wasn't even that great.

I saw Looper the other day, good movie, good concept. Ends with a bang in an unexpected way.

However there's an early scene which sets up an ongoing concept, which in itself is fine, but it involves some really horrible things happening to someone. It kinda triggered some of my personal phobias or neuroses so it was somewhat troublesome.

Still worth seeing.

I agree 100% with this. full 3D experience is an IMAX thing to me. not full length cinema. I saw resident evil last week and a 2D version would have been just fine. there's like what, 10 mins in 3D out of the entire movie (~1h40). it is not worth 3$ to me.

If Layer Cake wasn't destined to be Daniel Craig's best Bond film, Skyfall definitely is.

Continuity porn done right (are you watching, Die Another Day?).

Wreck-It Ralph was good. Not my favorite animated Disney film but it was enjoyable and safe and made me laugh a few times and the short-haired space captain woman was hot.

I really want to go see Lincoln.

but Django!

The Hobbit had a completely different tone to it than the LotR series, and that's reflected a bit in the movie. I really enjoyed it- especially the bit with Gollum and the riddles.

Just came back from Django, and while it's not quite on par with Reservoir Dogs or Inglorious Basterds it's still amazingly fantastic, hilarious, and of course; so over the top violent that you're just bewildered.

Also, be prepared for more racism than you can shake a stick at (but admittedly, it fits perfectly for 1858 Mississippi. Hell even modern day Mississippi).

Just got back from seeing Les Mis, and I really enjoyed it. There were really some standout performances, especially I Dreamed a Dream and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.

I didn't bother to check for the movie's name, but it had to do with a kid named Joel who gives into temptation thanks to his friends. He then later has a one-nightstand with a hooker but has trouble getting rid of her and a bunch of other problems on the side too. It was on Spike, but if you guys could identify the movie's name then that would be great.

I also saw Les Mis on Tuesday, I thought it was a really strong film. I never knew Hugh Jackman could sing, he'll always be Wolverine in my head. But Wolverine just made a theater full of people cry.

I also think Anne Hathaway was outstanding, I Dreamed a Dream was probably the best song for me.

Make no mistake, if you don't like musicals or operas or films like this, Les Mis isn't going to be some sort of revelation. It was a LONG movie and outside of the music and actor's performances I don't think it will be up for many awards. Nonetheless I enjoyed it. I hope more musicals get a film version with this much love and care in the future (oh how I would love to see a Wicked movie sparing no expense on the best singers/actors/CGI).
