Rock You Like a Hurricane Guide

Table of Contents

Oh Hai Thur, Why am I Writing This?
Ok, so I was surfing Scorehero's forums earlier, and I realized that there is not one rock you like a hurricane guide out there. "that's sick!" I thought to myself, rock you like a hurricane is one of the most annoying fcs to get out there, and there isn't one guide to help people improve or fc it. I decided I should change this. This guide is for anybody looking to improve on or fc rock you like a hurricane (rylah).

Fingering Key

1 = Index
2 = Middle
3 = Ring
4 = Pinky
Red Numbers = Tapping finger
d = Downstrum
u = Upstrum
h = Hammer-on
p = Pull-off
t = Tapped Note
e = elbow strum
note: any white - mark has no significance, it is just a space

Intro

Ok so this section starts off innocently enough with this pattern 2 times
--

then this pattern, getting harder but not too hard yet...

dudud ud ud ududududu du du dudududud ud ud ududududu

11111 11 11 111111111 11 11 111111111 11 11 111111111
11111 11 11 111111111 11 11 111133333 33 33 333333333
I do this all out of 3rd position starting on a down strum to get ready for the next part, which is really annoying

the hard part...
-----
you may be thinking, "Whoa there! He called that part hard. There is nothing hard at all about that." well, that trill is really fast and hard to hit.
some ways to play it are:
my method (the most popular):
d udpp p p p h p p

1 1232 1 1 1 3 2 1
3 3
another method:
d udpp p p p h p p

2 2343 2 1 1 3 2 1
4 4
another method:
d uhtp p p p h p p

2 2313 2 1 1 3 2 1
4 4

Solo 1
This solo is the easiest of the song but it's still tricky to get down as it has descending scales at about the same speed as cult of personality.

it starts off with a bunch of holds that I'm not pathing out, but it then goes into some intense soloing, I'm splitting it into 2 parts to break it down a bit

Part 1
my method:
---- -
34--34--34 34 3 2--4 3 2 1 3 2 1 1 343 2 1 4
most popular method:
---- -
34--34--34 34 3 2--4 3 2 1 3 2 1 1 414324
another method:
---- -
34--34--34 34 3 2--4 3 2 1 3 2 1 1 313214
another method:
---- -
34--34--34 34 3 2--4 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 443 2 1 4

note: there is a 3/4 measure break between parts one and two

Part 2

my method:
--- --
2---2 3--323232323234321143214321

another method:
--- --
1---1 2--212121212123211132113211

another method:
--- --
2---2 3--323232323234321132113211

and after that there is this: -------------------- and that's it

Verse 1

this is the basic pattern of the song, not hard at all, just chords at hit me with your best shot speed.
Note: Slowhero's first activation is on the first note of verse one with the biggest squeeze you are able to do on the front end

----------

it then repeats itself, but instead of the there is ----------

this is the meat and potatoes of the song, there are lots of points located in this section, and it isn't very difficult, so if you want to improve your score, I highly recommend being able to fc this section. if you are trying to fc this song, and you need help here, you shouldn't be worrying about an fc.

Chorus 1

-- over and over... not hard at all.

Verse 2

starts off the same as Verse 1 then it goes into this...

------- -- -- ------- -- ----- ------- -- -- ------- -- -------------------

again, not tricky at all, but starting 2 notes before the chord, there is a star power phrase that goes to the last note of Verse 2. Whammy the living hell out of those holds... you will be rewarded.

Chorus 2

depending on your squeezing ability, unless you want to follow Slowheros bigger squeeze path for this song, you want to activate on the first note of Chorus 2. If you are a great squeezer, which I am not, you activate on the 3rd GY with the biggest squeeze you are capable of.

as for the section, it is the same as Chorus 1 with a slight variation, it starts off with the same good ole'
--
pattern, but midway through there is a slight change and the pattern changes to
----

Solo 2

NOW, THE FUN PART!!!
by fun I mean complete hell to learn and a bitch to get past in an fc run...

I'm separating this into parts to make it easier to dissect

part 1:

my method:
dhphphph dhhph dphp
-----
12121214 12414 2121

another method:
etptptpt dhhph dphp
-----
11111111 12414 2121

another method:
dhphphpt dhhph dphp
-----
12121211 12414 2121

this part is really annoying at first, but easy to learn. with a little practice, you should be able to master this and fc it with ease.

part 2:

-------- -----
11223311223311223311234-----4--- 4323211 34 211 34 211 34 211 1 1 2 3

that's really the only way to hit this section, there's no way to tap it really, and not really any alternate fingerings I can think of or know of. if you have a different one pm me and ill add it. this section isn't "easy" but it's pretty straightforward.

part 3:

this part, in my opinion, is the hardest part in the song. I know others may not agree with me, but its real challenging to keep time and the strums make it easy to mess up and choke on.

my method:
--------------
1 121 1 121 1 121 1 121 2 232 1 121 1 121 2 232 2----4 3----3----3
I know this method is sufficiently weird, but it works for me

most popular method:
--------------
1 121 1 121 2 232 3 343 1 121 2 232 2 232 3 343 3----4 3----3----3

another method:
---- --------
1 121 2 232 3 343 4 414 1 121 2 232 3 343 4 414 4----4 3----3----3

yet another method:
---- --------
1 121 1 121 2 232 2 232 1 121 1 121 2 232 2 232 2----4 3----3----3

part 4

-- ----- ---- --
11231123112--2 3-----12 13 14 12311234--4--4 4-- 3

this is probably the easiest part of the solo, in my opinion.

part 5

my method:
d p p p h p p dudp p p
--
4 3 2 1 2 1 1 3343 2 1-- 4 3 4 3 2 1 4 3 4 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 2 432 1 2 3 4

another method:
d p p p h p p ddhp p p
--
4 3 2 1 2 1 1 3343 2 1-- 3 2 3 2 1 1 3 2 3 2 1 1 3 2 1 1 2 321 1 2 3 4

another method:
d p p p h p p ddhp p p
--
4 3 2 1 2 1 1 3343 2 1-- 1 3 1 3 2 1 1 3 1 3 2 1 1 3 2 1 2 321 1 2 3 4

this part is isn't too hard, but it's a ripe ole' choking spot in an fc run. that BBOB hook is really fast and has 2 fast strums. I choked there several times in fc runs and it sucks. I'd recommend going into practice mode and getting really consistent at this part if you are going for an fc, because it isn't that hard, it's just annoying.

the solo ends off with 2 really slow notes and then a long chord hold.

---------------

Verse 3a

no notes in this section. this is your opportunity to let your fingers breathe after the solo.

Verse 3b

----- then the same as the second part of Verse 2, only it ends on a instead of a .

Chorus 3

---- x2
followed by this riff...
-----

real short, real easy, just about when you start getting nervous in an fc run, and lucky you, the hardest part has yet to come ;).

Solo 3

I'm going to break this solo into parts as well to make it easier to understand.

part 1:

my method (the most popular one):
du du du du dudududud ud ud ududududu ud ud ud

22 22 22 22 222222222 22 22 222222222 22 22 22 123212321232123 2 1 1 1

another method
du du du du dudududud ud ud ududududu ud ud ud

22 22 22 22 222222222 22 22 222222222 22 22 22 121212121212121 2 1 1 1

I really don't think tapping is necessary for this part, but whatever floats your boat. =D

Part 2:

Ah, the infamous speeding up trill. This part kept me (along with many other people I'm sure) from fcing this song. The trill is FAST so my advice is to either tap it or if you're going to one hand it, just have a total finger spasm for about half a second. To help, I'm going to find absolutely every method I can, but you just have to figure out what's comfortable for you.

my method:
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 4 212124 2121 1

most popular "tap the oranges" method:
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 1 212121 2121 1

ArmourTheLlama's method
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 3 211123 2121 1

Llama Yip's method note: brockbfball uses this too and he has a video of it
-----
1 1 1 2 1 1 1 4 211124 2121 1

MarkAllen1988's method
-----
1 2 1 1 1 1 1 4 111114 1111 1

One of Brockbfball1563's methods (link to video!!)
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 4 212113 2121 1

One of Brockbfball1563's methods (link to video!!)
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 4 112114 2121 1

pman5595's method
note: the only difference between his and mine is that he doesn't anchor anything
-----
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 4 212124 2121 1

my old method:
-----
1 2 1 2 1 3 1 1 212113 2121 1

the "tap everything method:" (I seriously saw someone use this in a hands video before, but I can't find it )
-----
1 3 1 3 1 3 1 1 313131 2121 1

Christianhero's Method

1 2 1 2 1 2 1 1 212124 2121 1

ElScrecrow's Method

1 2 1 2 1 2 1 3 112113 1121 1

Illiniguy's Method

1 2 1 1 1 1 1 4 111114 2121 1

I hope that's enough methods

part 3:

----------
11223311223311223322334-----3-----34 321 3 2 1 1

this part is just like part 2 of solo 2, only at the end there are 2 quick descending scales. it sounds much harder than it is though , it's actually really easy. I don't think I've ever missed there.

part 4:

-----
1 1 1
3 3 3
4 4 4

congrats!!! you have now finished rock you like a hurricane on the expert difficulty!! hopefully with the help of this guide, you can improve your score, or you can even get this:

As always, compliments, questions, complaints are appreciated. I work for a long time on these banners but you can't expect them to be perfect.

Just a little formatting suggestion: you should use find and replace to change all instances of "color=white" to "color=#F0F0F0". This will make the underscores you have for spacing completely invisible.

This is my method:

1 2 1 2 1 2 1 1 212124 2121 1

It's very consistent, at least for me .

I think you should just put it in correctly, not in quote form >_>. The numbers are distorted.

I'm gonna endorse the heavy-sliding method. Never lift your index finger off of a button.

1 2 1 2 1 2 1 3 112113 1121 1

With this method, all you need to do is make sure you hit the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th Ys on time, as well as both Os. You can pretty much ignore all the other notes (except the strum)

I second this, probably the best method for one-handing solo 3.

I'm not sure how, but I must've written my method incorrectly when I gave it to you

1 2 1 1 1 1 1 4 111114 2121 1

As you can see, I actually do anchor for most of it. Also, not sure if it needs to be specified, but I don't elbow-strum, at all.

Good guide for the most part. Just two things I noticed that I kind of go wtf at...

---

QUOTED BUT QUOTES MESS SHIT UP

another method:
dhphphpt dhhph dphp
-----
12121211 14124 2121

and

my method:
--------------
1 121 1 121 1 121 1 121 2 232 1 121 1 121 2 232 2----4 3----3----3
I know this method is sufficiently weird, but it works for me

---

For the first one you have my hitting R with my index, Y with my pinky and O with my index? That's some crazy hand contortion.

Second one, you go down to 0th position for the GRG? I assume you meant...

--------------
1 121 1 121 1 121 2 232 1 121 1 121 1 121 2 232 2----4 3----3----3

Which is a bit weird I suppose.

Also, my solo 3 method is the same as yours. Clean and simple.

Hey I just read it and everything looks awesome. Thank you for listing my solo 3 method! I was just reading and I was like wtf I'm in here? Only thing I do different from that now is elbow strum and tap the two yellows at the end. Like,

0101 1

With the 0s being tapping finger. I choked on that yellow strum like 10 times when I went for the FC.
